Dior Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2012
I start work at I-D Magazine as an unpaid intern on Monday (tomorrow!!), leaving my paid Assistant Editor's position in the process - my friend's think I'm crazy, but I absolutely adore I-D Magazine, so I know I'd always wonder what could have happened if I didn't do the internship.
While beauty and make-up is the main focus of this blog, fashion is a big interest of mine, and one of the reasons I so want to gain experience at I-D.I've heard so many arguments surrounding people who like fashion, largely that it's shallow, silly, and not "serious". Basically that women who like fashion are essentially little girls playing dress up with their dolls.
And I could go into why this is a ridiculous way of thinking, and why there's so much more to fashion that's sociological, and intellectually stimulating, and why it's a perfectly valid interest and career, but I wont, I'll let this lady do it for me in her incredible blog post: Why Fashion is Worth Blogging About
If you are at all interested in fashion, or better-still, you loathe "fashion" and think it's not worth your time, read this blog post.

While the above post essentially sums up a large portion of what interests me about fashion, I have to be completely honest.
The largest, most consuming reason that I love fashion?
Nothing more than the sheer pleasure I get out of looking at beautiful clothes.
And I don't think that's shallow either. I so very nearly did Art instead of English Literature at university, but what swayed me in the end is that I hated having to apply "meaning" to my work in Art.

What made me happiest was sitting with a paintbrush and some oils to make something that I thought was beautiful to look at. That drew you in, and held you captive even when you couldn't define why.

I think there's value in art with meaning, and art that is trying to create a message, or say something about society. Don't get me wrong, I love that about art, and I love that about fashion too.

But the fundamental reason for art I feel, is that it's beautiful to look at, and that it makes you want to look at it.
The same applies to make-up: I love applying make-up both to myself and other people (I adore costume make-up and have done some costume make-up for theatre productions) as I see it like painting - I want the make-up I've applied look beautiful.
And likewise with fashion, I'm drawn to clothes as I see them as works of art. The tailoring, the colours, and the fabrics of a dress can all combine to make something that is truly beautiful, and that makes the wearer look beautiful.
That's also why I don't agree with having tall, skinny "clothes-hanger" models - I don't find any value in clothing that has to be worn by a 5ft8" or taller woman, who is also a size 8 or smaller, in order to look good. It's the clothing that should make the person wearing it feel and look beautiful, not the other way around.
The Dior Haute Couture Spring/Summer Collection is a perfect example of what I love about fashion.
These dresses are timeless, and universally flattering. The fabrics and tailoring are exquisite, and the dresses themselves are stunning to look at.
Just like I'd one day love to hang a Vermeer painting on my wall, I'd love to hang one of these dresses in my wardrobe, and do nothing but stare at it all day.

Girls! These drinks are so easy to make and to die for! You don't have to spend $15 - $20 for a cocktail at a bar or club when you can use that same amount of money to buy the ingredients and have as many drinks as you want.
Get together with your gals (men-free night), make each of them bring one of the ingredients necessary for preparing the drinks, and make turns preparing them. You can have them for a night in or just to warm you up before going out (and that way you get to spend less, thinking ahead!).
A little treat when you meet up with your girls, for some chatty night, or to watch some movies, or even when you're alone. Because you deserve it for being that awesome girl you are! Besides, if you're on your own, no one has to know...
Let me know if you do make them, I sure will be having some soon.

Kelly Brook was born on 23 November 1979, in England in the town of Chatham, Kent. Kelly is a model, TV personality and actress.
