Does the name Whitney Port ring a bell? I'm probably sure it will if you were one of the millions of fans that used to watch shows as The Hills or The City. To refresh your memory, The Hills started as a follow up of the MTV reality TV show 'Laguna Beach', which followed the life of several high-school kids from Orange County. The Hills is a reality show that followed up the life of Lauren Conrad who by that time moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dream in fashion. The same day that LC was starting her internship in Teen Vogue, Whitney Port was also starting hers, and there's where they meet and then that's how Whitney started to appear in the show. What no one knew by then was that later on Whitney will move to New York and that she will have her own reality show, a spin-off called The City.

I've seen Laguna Beach when it aired and then I tried to follow The Hills but later on all that Heidi-Spencer drama made me want to puke, so I stopped watching (I mean, anyone feels the same, right?). But some months ago I don't know why (call it mid-season depression, and no more TV shows to watch) I started watching the re-runs of The Hills and then The City. And I felt sympathy for Whitney Port, because here you have a girl, with a dream, trying to please everyone and pursue her dream, with a lot of pressure and people that want to stab her back, and yet, she made that possible. Here's an example of "Incredible things happen when you work your ass off". Nothing will happen if you just sit and wait for the right moment to come. There's this girl, she wanted to have her own collection, and the opportunity was there, at a very bad time. So it was take it or leave it. There was an opening for Fashion Week, not enough time to even do so, it was a 50/50 chance of winning/losing, and she decided to go all for it. And she managed to have it.

Another lesson to learn from her is to always take comments in a positive way and to keep trying. She got rejected so many times, and a lot of them were negative comments. And yet, she kept trying, and she maintained her vision, and here you go, she's got now her designs running in fashion shows. She did have influential people on her side, and that's a plus for her, but that means that we need to try to make our way into it if we want to succeed.

Ok, so about the event. A bit more than a week ago, Whitney Port came all the way down to Australia to show us her line on Whitney Eve, which is now available at Sportsgirl. She presented her fresh, fruity style saying she's not afraid of being too matchy-matchy, a characteristic she quite likes. Her line is inspired by and created for the everyday girl, so it's not too edgy but it's very trendy. Something you can wear to go to work, go for an ice-cream with your friends, or even to meet the parents on a Sunday BBQ.

Right after presenting her clothes (which started quite on time, specially since she had to run for other duties), she answered several questions from the audience. Questions went from what's her inspiration and who are her favourite designers to how she applies her make-up, how she treats her hair and if her eye lashes were real or false. And yes, there were several questions regarding to her TV show. I mean, girls, congratulate this lady for her accomplishments, don't bore her with this questions. And if you want to ask, well, at least congratulate her first.

You'll find out that Whitney is a girl like all of us, real. Besides being part of all that drama that not quite everyone is certain if it was true or not (reality TV!), this gal seems to be quite transparent. She digs for Ryan Gosling as all of us do. She likes checking street style on the internet (checking sites such as Style Bubble, Who What Wear or, The Glitter Guide) to inspire herself on what girls are wearing now. And on that tone, she admires Australian women compared to Americans, since from what she's noticed is that women here are not afraid of colour. They love it on their clothes. Interesting. And on musical terms, her ipod is shuffling through Amy Winehouse songs, and she's currently listening to M83.

And if you want the scoop on her reality show, well, as for her answers you have that there was no script although the producers did told them what they were about to shoot. She keeps in touch with Lauren but not that often since they both have busy lives. She appreciates Kelly Cutrone for all her guidance and help, she's currently helping her with her fashion show during Fashion Week. Oh, and she likes very much Aussie guys. She dated one (if you remember from the show).

As for the event per se, it was well organized. No one was crushing no one, we all were able to speak up and ask questions if wanted. We also received goody bags, and there was Pellegrini with striped straws, chicken sandwiches and spring cupcakes (I called them like that because they were all so colourful). Plus lolly pops, let's not forget the lollies. But, I would have at least let the staff from the caterers know what the event was about. Because people started showing up asking what was happening inside and they kept mentioning it was the store opening, which surprised and confused quite a few who knew that store has been there for quite a while. But that was a minor thing. Overall, it was really great.

Ps. Just a heads up, it's already spring (yay for that! let's hope warmer days come ahead) and tomorrow starts Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. It's going to be a busy week trying to manage work and trying to catch up with MSFW, but I'll do my best to work out both. Stay tuned!
