Hello my lovelies! Getting very excited - 7 followers off 100! Get ready for another blog giveaway!
At the minute though, I'm celebrating my first ever eyebrow wax, done last night at Benefit's Brow Bar!
I've never really done my eyebrows myself - my old house mate (who always had amazing eyebrows) used to do my eyebrows for me, and in return I'd give her a mani-pedi. In my old house we traded beauty favours like currency, it was fantastic, they could use it to beat the Recession, I swear ;)
Having tried plucking my own, I can safely say that I am completely useless. I have what my house mate used to call 'difficult eyebrows', meaning I have very thick hairs, a funny shape, and hairs that seem to grow at odd angles. Attractive I know. So when my house mate left for Germany last year, I kind of just let them grow free and wild. I could tell they enjoyed it, and who cares what you look like when your eyebrows are happy, eh?
But on something of an impulse yesterday, I thought maybe it was time to actually do something about them.
Something professional.
Jump!
I've always been scared of actually getting my brows professionally done, because as much as my brows are a nightmare, I don't want no skinny anorexic brows hanging about on my face.
Sadly, this seems to be what a lot of people come back with when they visit the beautician's, and so I was nervous about someone over-plucking and leaving me with some little twiglets for brows.
Taking this into consideration, I decided I wanted to go to Benefit. I had a friend who swore by them, and her eyebrows were gorgeous. It sounds strange to talk about eyebrows being gorgeous, but they just were - so arched and defined and perfect!
Plus, it seemed like Benefit leant less towards the twiglet brow style of things, and more towards the defined, sexy, 1950's brow (the eyebrows I have always dreamed of having).
On Benefit's site it says:
Every Benefit Brow Bar is staffed with professionals, highly trained in the art of brow shaping, so they’re always ready to wax and tweeze, primp and please. And to keep you hair-free and carefree below the brow, we also offer a range of other services, plus instant beauty solutions to make up your day.
I rang up the nearest store to me, which happened to be the Carnaby Flagship Store, and booked myself in for a Brow Arch:
Our signature brow wax is fast, fabulous & instantly flattering…showing off your eyes & flaunting your best features!
***Before I go on to the actual brow wax, I want to talk to you about the service.***
I booked my appointment for 5:30pm, but got lost on the way there, and ended up arriving 10 minutes late. As they only had one girl in yesterday, and she had two appointments back to back after mine, I was told it would be unlikely I'd be able to get my brows done that day, but they could book me in for tomorrow.
This was absolutely fine, as I was late, but I was quite disappointed - you know when you build yourself up for something you're a bit scared of, and then when it comes to crunch time, you can't do it because of something else, and you feel strangely disappointed?
But just as we were looking at appointments for Tuesday, the girl I had my appointment with, Claire, came up and said she'd be able to quickly do my brows!
I'm a big fan of Claire, if you do go to the Carnaby store (located on Fouberts Place), ask for her, as she was really fantastic. Not only did she manage to squeeze in my appointment, she was so so good. She did my brows in 5 minutes flat, like some kind of eyebrow Kung-fu master.
***The Brow Wax***
You know, I hadn't really thought about the pain of waxing until I actually sat down in the chair, and then I was like 'ohhh, s***, this is going to hurt', but genuinely, it barely hurt at all. It was over so fast, and I barely felt a thing. Before I knew it, Claire was holding a mirror up to check if they were alright, and passing me over to her colleague to apply some concealer to cover up the redness. Wham, bam, thank you mam, it really couldn't have been easier.
And here are the before and after shots:
Before - I have attempted some tweezing here, so they aren't quite at their Groucho Marx best.
After - So happy! They're the eyebrows I've always wanted *sob*
The girl who did the concealer for me was lovely as well. She wasn't too pushy about selling me products, just asking if there was anything I wanted to try out...etc.
I didn't get her name, but she was really really pretty, which always helps with selling make up I find, as I sit there thinking, 'Ok, I'll buy this if it makes me look like you.' T_T
Surprisingly, I actually managed to restrain myself. I got her to put some of the Brow Zings wax and powder on me (I have it on in the above shots of my brows) but decided to see how it did for the rest of the evening and think about it, rather than impulse buy.
It's £22, so a bit of a price tag, but for that you get a wax, powder, tweezers and two brushes, and the girl putting it on me said hers has lasted for about three years. I'm tempted!
Apparently they also do Brow Mapping - I'd love to try that sometime, and if you do your own eyebrows they also have a guide for it on the site!
Overall, I'm really pleased. The only side effect is that I keep absent-mindedly stroking my eyebrows. My workmates are looking at me a little funny...
