Happy Friday Chickadees!
To celebrate that Friday feeling I've got a lovely Bobbi Brown Limited Edition palette to show you...
I present the Sand Tortoise Shell Eye Palette!
Jump!
The Tagline of the collection is:
'Like a great pair of glasses, the Tortoise Shell Collection is about standout eyes.'
'Like a great pair of glasses, the Tortoise Shell Collection is about standout eyes.'
The packaging of this palette is stunning. I am a glasses wearer (tortoise shell ones in fact) so the advertising and design of this whole line really appealed to me. Although I wear contacts a lot more now, I still remember all those years of trying to find make up that would make my eyes stand out from behind lenses, so this collection instantly struck a chord with me.
I *love* tortoise shell as well, so the the case for this is one of my favourites - one of the make up items I own that every so often I get out and sigh over (yes, I'm that sad, at least we know I've found my true calling in writing a beauty blog ;D)
The Bobbi Brown site says:
A palette for lighter skin tones, with light to dark shadows in flattering warm neutrals. The eight shadows in this palette are designed to be layered - there's no blending required.
I wish I'd read that sooner, the amount of time I spent trying to create a blended look (it.just.didn't.work.) as really, as beautiful as these shades are, trying to blend them just makes the colour on the lids look a bit muddy :/
The palette is handy, with a sliding drawer on the bottom, so it's compact, but with a wide range of shades. There are eight in total (from top left going clockwise):
Top Layer
- Ivory (white, matte)
- Hot Stone (regular brown, matte)
- Terracotta (lightened orange, matte) *New
- Desert Sand (bright champagne gold, metallic) *New
Bottom Layer
- Antique Rose (medium peachy rose beige colour, matte) *New
- Black Chocolate (blackened brown, matte)
- Sandy Rose (brown taupe, metallic) *New
- Gold Bar (white gold with lots of shimmer)
Left to Right: Ivory, Hot Stone, Terracotta, Desert Sand |
Top to Bottom: Gold Bar, Sandy Rose, Black Chocolate, Antique Rose |
Oh Bobbi, you slay me with your neutrals, you really do. The colours for this are so, so up my street. At heart I am a brown, taupe, neutral lover, and I have to stop myself from splurging on every palette or range Bobbi brings out, as I really believe no one does flattering neutral shades as well as Bobbi Brown.
The pigmentation of these shades is lovely, not too much, just enough to give a soft flattering colour (although some of the paler matte shades could have a touch more pigmentation in my opinion).
There's a wide variety of finishes as well, which is nice considering the palette consists of quite similar shades.

The only downfall of this was the price. I went to the counter determined to buy this, as I had yet to buy a Bobbi Brown palette from anywhere other than a CCO, and I knew this was the one I wanted to pay full price for.
Do you ever have that, when you see a make up collection, and you're just like, 'That one. That is the one I will part cash for. I need it.'
Nonetheless, I did choke somewhat when the SA announced it was £48. Really, I made a noise like a cat having difficulty with a hairball. All things considered though, I think this was worth it. I get a lot of use out of it, both for work and going out, and I still get a warm glowy feeling looking at the pretty packaging.
I've had a look online, and the only item available from the collection is the Sand palette on Ebay, going for £49.99. Quite disappointing, as, since looking over the collection again, I'd love to own one of the lipsticks and the tortoise shell brush set! I guess that's the pain of Limited Edition pieces T_T
