This post isn't about cosmetics, but it's still under the category of 'Beauty' (Art & Fashion= Beautiful things :D) and I reeeeally wanted to share these upcoming exhibitions, because I'm SO excited about them.

There are a few events coming up in London which are right up my street, and major perks of moving back to the big city and becoming a City Slicker (I have business cards people. BUSINESS CARDS).

First up, The Wild, The Beautiful & The Damned at Hampton Court Palace:

On Hampton Court's site it says...

The Wild, the Beautiful and the Damned, explores the meaning of beauty, and the lives and loves of the courtesans and libertines who lived and died in the Stuart Court during the reigns of Charles II, James II, William III & Mary II and Anne (1660-1714)

It features portraits of Cheeky Chappie King Charles II's mistresses, Nell Gwyn, and Barbara Villiers, as well as other court beauties of the time.

Particularly interesting is it's exploration of beauty, both in aiding and cursing it's possessor - a few of the woman on display here were supposedly murdered by jealous husbands!

Fashion accessories will be on display too, and the exhibition promises to 'bring to life the glamour and magnificence of the Baroque Period.' Sounds brilliant to me.

Running the first Monday of each month from April to September, open until 9.30pm with tickets £10.

A similar exhibition looking at people and society is the Royal Academy of Art's Johann Zoffany RA: Society Observed

The exhibition (online site here) looks at artist Johann Zoffany. According to the RA:

His work provides an invaluable and often unique appraisal of key British institutions and edifices: the art academy; the Court; the theatre; the bourgeois family; and the British Empire.
Of all the major artists at work in eighteenth-century England, none explored more inventively the interstices of Georgian society and the complexities of British imperial rule than Zoffany.
I love the 17th Century style of painting, particularly portrait work, and my mum happens to be an RA Friend, so definitely heading to this soon!

Running from March 10 - June 10, with tickets at £10, concessions available, or free for RA Friends.

Finally, two very interesting-looking fashion exhibitions coming up.

The first is the first UK retrospective of French designer Christian Louboutin, on from May 1 - July 8 being shown at The Design Museum.

Online it says that:
This exhibition celebrates Louboutin’s career to date and showcases twenty years of designs and inspiration, revealing the artistry and theatricality of his shoe design from stilettos to lace-up boots, studded sneakers and bejewelled pumps. Louboutin’s shoes are the epitome of style, glamour, power, femininity and elegance.
The exhibition will be on 10am-5.45pm daily (last adm 5.15pm) with tickets £11, £10 concs, £7 students, under-12s free.

The second upcoming exhibition is Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950, running May 19 - Jan 6 2013 at the Victorian and Albert Museum.

This looks incredible, with dresses worn by Liz Hurley and Sandra Bullock on display!

On the site, it says:
The exhibition will cover over sixty years of a strong British design tradition that continues to flourish. Eveningwear from the V&A’s vast collection, by designers including Victor Stiebel, Zandra Rhodes, Jonathan Saunders and Hussein Chalayan, will be on show alongside dresses fresh from the catwalk shows of Alexander McQueen, Giles Deacon, Erdem and Jenny Packham.
A selection of royal ballgowns will be on display, including a Norman Hartnell gown designed for Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Princess Diana’s ‘Elvis Dress’ designed by Catherine Walker and gowns worn by today’s young royals.

Exhibition runs 10am-5.45pm daily, until 10pm Friday (selected galleries only), and tickets cost £10, with concessions available.
I think out of all these events I'm most excited about this one. Are there any upcoming events you're keen to see? D'you reckon you'll head to any of these is you're around and about London?
